Sorry too busy kissing my okole goodbye thanks to Trump saber rattling and a now probably unemployeed state official or two.  Seems like the Koreans know the art of diplomacy even if The Dump doesn't

Nori, I couldn’t agree more than I do with your latest post.  Thank you for taking the time and effort to express what many of us are unwilling and or unable to.

And I thank all who care to express views on any topic. It’s fascinating & downright stimulating to compare viewpoints & am hopeful others will want to jump in, too. Why the heck not?

Game on! Looks like a perfectly lovely Nexium night to me, Glen! My mantra: anyone but Belichick. 🏈

Glen, gotta say I was thrilled & surprised to see Foles looking like John Unitas over the weekend. My buffet featured “crow” under glass, as a result. As you may recall, after Wentz, I thought they were dead.  Unfortunately, however, ‘Marcia’ Brady & the bunch did it yet again. Which refs are Brady & Belichick sleeping with? Jeez. Two penalties? Gimme a break...πŸ™„

Nori,

I was not too surprised that the "Patz" are in the Super Bowl yet again.  What did amaze me was Nick Foles with a QB rating of 141.2 vs. the Vikings who by the way were favored.  All in all the Eagles, Italian Subs, Texas Chili, and a healthy portion of JW Scotch made for a very enjoyable Sunday Football evening.

Now I have 2 weeks to work up a Super Bowl menu.

I’m going to take a turn as a theater critic, and share news of a wonderful production of The Quartet. Our very own superstar Nori, stole the show! She was fantastic...so talented. The rest of the cast was also quite good, and the play was much fun. If you get a chance to venture to Annapolis, don’t miss it. Five stars, and double thumbs upπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘?>/p>

Wow! Not only does Suzy surprise me with a visit to the show, but takes time to plug it (& me!) as well! Above & beyond, dear heart! Thanks! ❀️

And, speaking of thumbs up, please add “Darkest Hour” to your list of “must sees”, everyone! Absolutely 5 star stellar!! And, if Gary Oldman’s Winston Churchill doesn’t win him an Oscar, there’s even more amiss in Hollywood than we thought!

Concerning Social Security and Medicare in addition to the government websites and publications that explain these earned benefits that we've paid into for decades I'd also recommend two books that you can probably find in your local library: "Get What's Yours" (for Social Security) by Kotlikoff, Moeller and Solman and "Get What's Yours for Medicare" (which also includes Medicaid info) by Moeller. They are good supplements to government publications and websites. They are particularly good if one's history includes divorce, early loss of a spouse or other less than "Father Knows Best" life scenarios.

Glen, re ‘Skins’ news: am not sure how to take losing Fuller & picking up QB Smith. Thoughts?

No one has any responses to the SOTUS? Does anyone wish Pelosi has been a bit more civil ...at least about infrastructure, the drop in Black unemployment & gestures of patriotic respect for the flag, military & law enforcement officers? Though I’m used to seeing polarization during that annual “rally”, gotta say it was about the iciest crowd of Leftists ever. Almost leads one to believe they detest this country & not just the Prez!

Was disheartened to see that legislation thwarting legal abortions after 20 week-gestation periods (due to fetal pain) failed to pass through the Senate, though it did get through the House. For those who care, I urge you to let your Senator(s) know where you stand. Am hopeful refinement of the bill will pull in the last few votes needed. Surely, most would agree that if an unborn child feels the pain of his or her own demise, the procedure should not be legally performed unless, & in fact, the life of the mother is at stake. Read up on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act & share ideas. What changes (if any) would you make to the bill? Apparently, barring certain circumstances, 76% of the populace feels abortions should not be performed after 12 weeks, yet this bill was short by 9 votes. Several Dems crossed party lines to vote in favor. Two Republicans voted against. How does the forum feel about this?

Nori,

Several of my friends at Joe’s feel the same way, but I’m more optimistic.  First let me say that I wish Kirt well no matter what team is fortunate enough to land him; on the other hand Washington was very lucky to get the high quality quarterback that Alex Smith is.  Now will our dysfunctional team owner ruin things?  I’ll pray to the Football Gods: "Please intervene on behalf of the long suffering fans".

Awesome game! Only thing better would be if our ‘skins pulled it out while we’re still around, Glen!

Foles ...a back up? Crazy, isn’t it?

To fellow political junkies: I say release EVERYTHING! Sunshine’s still the best disinfectant! 😎

Mornin’! Just read a real day brightener that’s timely & forum worthy: Steven Pinker’s The Saturday Essay for the WSJ: “The Enlightenment Is Working”, dated Feb. 9, 2018. We never know where we are until we know how far we’ve come.

Happy Olympic weekend, folks! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Always the critic, here are my latest picks: winner of best actor in a supporting role - Sam Rockwell as Jason Dixon in “3 Billboards...”; Best supporting actress should be Laurie Metcalf as the brooding mother in “Lady Bird”; Best Actor should be Gary Oldman in “Darkest Hour” & I loved Jessica Chastain in “Molly’s Game” , Meryl Streep’s Catherine Graham in “The Post” & Frances McDormand in “3 Billboards..”. Having a hard time choosing who will take best actress. Best direction I saw in a flick this year was that of “Darkest Hour”...a stand out sequence was that of a London street slow-mo monsoon scene, which was like a ballet. Best film? No idea. My fave was “Darkest Hour” but it won’t win due to politics.  My prediction is “The Post”, particularly since Hollywood loves Spielberg. .“Phantom Thread” was a bit dark for me but the textural cinematography was lovely. Never saw “The Shape of Water”..was it good? (Btw,  tonight’s Westminster winner should have been the Giant Schnauzer (who scored second) & not the Bichon Frise.)

As a lover of good westerns, am disappointed with the film, “Hostiles” which was touted as the best western since “Unforgiven”...NOT! Bad script, predictable plot, no chemistry, mediocre acting,  - including Christian Bale’s performance (though I loved his work in “3:10 to Yuma” a few years ago). My fave western of all time was “Lonesome Dove” - a classic, having all the elements that sadly were missing in “Hostiles”. Even an old rerun of “The Virginian” offered more. Care to chime in with faves & ne’er-do-wells, pop culturalists?

Hooray for Shaun White & the adorable Chloe Kim for bringing home the gold!!

Rock on, USA! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Really, Glen? Spaghetti westerns? Better than “Lonesome Dove” or “Hombre”?  Do tell me what I missed, & spare me the photos of spaghetti, please! πŸ‘ŠπŸ˜‰ <>>

When will we finally pass legislation to prevent people from getting assault weapons like the ones that killed 17 innocent beautiful children. Its not enough to try to find and stop every mentally ill person. Let's make it harder for them to get deadly guns and let's have  background checks. Other industrialized countries have mentally ill too but don't have the gun violence we have as they don't have those deadly guns readily available. To hear the parents of these children with their hearts broken forever is the ultimate pain. Love, Joanie
