Jerry,

Thought you might like this:

Trump is implicated in a crime. He is referring to people as rats etc. like mob language. This is another sad day for our Country. When you think of all the criminals that Trump has picked to surround him it feels dark and dangerous. By the way, the press are not the Enemy of the People as Trump loves to say. We need the free press for a thriving democracy. You don't get to pick only the stories favorable to yourself in a Democracy. I hear that more and more people are becoming concerned with what is going on. Congress needs to act to protect the Mueller investigation and to do oversight hearings on these recent revelations. Unfortunately its hard to bet on that happening.  Love, Joanie

Joanie—

But those of us of a certain age remember those words, “unindicted co-conspirator” that put Nixon on that last helicopter ride away from the White House.

I wonder how it feels for those who voted for both Dick (maybe twice!) and Trump? Do you think they ever question their own judgement? Or do they just blame everything on “the Left?”

Off to see if the rain really does fall mainly on the plain. Nora will understand.

Jack, you’re SO cute! I may understand but am not sure Al Lerner would, since his lyric is “...IN the plain..”

Glen:  howzabout Z’s walk off!? The air was a tad chilly at my house last night 😜

I refuse to be bound by someone else's errors. A liquid can't fall IN a flat surface, only ON it.

Yes. What Robert said. 🙏

Jack: there you go again, winning the  “most literal” award to go with your cabinet of “final word” trophies. It’s  called creative license. Joyce Hill would understand. 💋

Literal is good. Keeps one from speaking claptrap like “truth isn’t truth” or “alternative facts.”

Or characterizing wars as “beautiful” and the dead as jackals. I'll stick with literal.

Nori,

Zim's homer was awesome, but Strasburg's performance worries me, and the trade of Murphy to the Cubs, and Adams to the Cards make me nausious. Even worse today the Nats did it again to poor Max; how could they be so cruel?

"Hope is a good breakfast but a poor supper"

This is turning out to be the most corrupt administration in the history of the US. So many of the people who Trump surrounds himself with have been indicted for criminal activity. He talks about how horrible it is that people flip and are not loyal, that they are rats...its like the mob language. His lawyer or fixer is indicted...his campaign manager is indicted and convicted, his national security advisor is indicted....and many others are corrupt that are cabinet heads....This should be a bipartisan situation for us as Americans defending our country from a lawless president. Love, Joanie

Remember, Joanie, it took a couple of years of Congressional and journalistic work to bring Nixon to something approximating justice. The Trumpublicans are more shameless, but there's still hope.

The railroad bridge over the Beltway that formerly carried "Surrender Dorothy" signs (the spires of the Mormon Temple are just ahead) had a new posting this morning--"Surrender Donald." Maybe those folks with the "Q" shirts know something about it.

Jack, I see what you mean...and Trump and Nixon have a lot in common...two crooks...How crazy that Nixon is looking good in comparison to Trump. Things have really hit rock bottom. Still wondering when the Republicans in Congress will feel the red line has been reached. It wasn't when Trump picked Putin over our Intelligence Agencies, or when he targets brown people or when he separated children. What will it take? Though I don't always agree with John McCain, I respected very much that he would speak out for convictions he had especially about defending our country against the Russians and others who threaten us. He has always been such a patriotic American. I salute that. He also defended Barack Obama when that woman trashed him during the election.  I"m sorry he is so sick. Love, Joanie

Glen, it probably doesn’t matter much about Max. Neither he nor Nola will likely win the Cy this year. Mets’ deGrom will take it. And rightly so. I agree it should be all about ERA & not wins. You? Sherzer v. Nola again on Tuesday night in Philly should be interesting. BTW, my guy has always thought Harper was an arrogant sort but now that Bryce voiced that he might like to play for the Phills, things are different. What a BA comeback after the break!

Jack, leave it to you to say or argue (just about) anything to have the last word! Even denying the use (or misuse) of metaphor & creative license! You really missed your calling, kiddo. You would have been one helluva lawyer. Okay. Tit for tat. (But please, resist the temptation to take THAT literally! 😜)

Been on a movie marathon: watched “Dr. Zhivago”, “Exodus”, “Giant”, “On The Waterfront”, “Casablanca”, “Citizen Kane”, “12 Angry Men” & “The Postman Always Rings Twice” (all originals) on Netflix this summer. They sure look different through the lens of a 71 year old woman compared to the teeny-bopper I was when I first saw & heard them. The film editing & special effects have sure come a long way but the stories are still classic. If you’re laid up or have a rainy day, check out some film-noir & share the reviews! Over & out.

Must have died and gone to heaven. O, por lo menos, Madrid y Valencia

We shared this paella with 8 other people. Really.

So where are you Jack? Doesn't look like your hometown.

Iits very sad that John McCain died. He had dignity and  real comvictions and though I disagreed with some things he supported, I respected him and think

the world was a better place with him in it. Love, Joanie

Come on, Bob. A little detective work. Fine hams; paella. Here's another hint: ripping along at 300 KPH, so fast the vineyards and olive trees blur.

Yes, Joanie, McCain could have taught Trump a lot about service, integrity, and bravery. Trump's comment about McCain as a POW was one of the most loathesome, and revealing, public remarks a politician has ever made. For anyone with a sense of decency it should reveal the truly base nature of his character.

Not positive I know where you are, but avoid any urge to take in a bullfight, Jack. Hope you can visit The Alhambra, Costa del Sol, hydroplane across Gibraltar Straits & ride camels in Morocco. I was much younger than you, but to me, it happened yesterday.

PS. Pack extra rolls of TP. 💩

John McCain was one of the few politicians who knew how to fight for & stick to his deeply held convictions under intense pressure. He knew how to teach. And, he listened. AND he had a sense of humor. It’s hard to imagine following politics without his voice, his persona. Recently, in this political climate, I have found comfort in his words, “More unites us, than divides us”. And am hoping, beyond hope, that they ring true.

08/26/18 11:23 AM #6528

Joanie Bender (Grosfeld)

I agree with the comments about John McCain that Jack and Nori said. He did say that more unites us but he also was so upset about the lack of civility and

divisiveness of the Trump campaign. McCain was a man who truly loved America and wanted to do all in his power to defend our country and to better it. I know many of us will miss his powerful voice. Love, Joanie

Nora, does it strike you at all self-contradictory when you’re adding a final word asserting that it's me who always has to have the last word?

Another day, in—yes—Spain.  Valenthia, as Mrs Jenkins would have taught us. From sun-up over the Med, up into the mountains and a Paleolithic site, a midieval castle and, of course, más paella. Chicken and bunny—I ate the ears before the picture was taken.

Yes, I’m going for the paella so fast my hand is blurred.

Jack, I am getting hungry for the paella...it looks so good. Are you speaking Spanish? You and Deb are really seizing the day...I love the photos...so beautiful. Love, Joanie
