Patty, my twin sister, Cary, and I were all born on the same day. Patty lived down the street from us. The three of us played together as well as her younger sister, Pam. We'd known one another since elementary school.
I believe I must have been home on college break when Patty's father rang the doorbell of my parent's home. Dad was at work and Mom wasn't available so I answered the door. It was then that Mr. Gimmel delivered the awful news of Patty's death. I will never forget that day or Mr. Gimmel's heartbreaking grief.
My heart sank as I remembered the sled rides down our hill and the bonfires our parents built at the top of our hill and the card games we kids always enjoyed together and our Halloween costumes. Such a tragedy.
