In Memory - Classmates

James Goldenberg

My closest friend in High School was Jimmy Goldenberg. The last time we spoke was right after I had triple by-pass heart surgery in 1988. He called to see how I was doing and it was then that I learned he had cancer that had started as back pain. I'm not sure the year he died, but I think it was not long after we spoke, around 1989.

My fondest High School memory of Jim was his making the football team as a back-up linebacker. After sitting on the bench most of the time, he finally got in a game and intercepted a pass from his middle linebacker position. It was the thrill of a lifetime for him and a moment I'll never forget, watching him catch the ball and return it about 12 yards. I was up on my feet cheering like crazy. Jimmy was survived by his wife and daughter. I think about him often.  Steve Cutler

I'm with you, Steve!  I think of him often, with lots of fond memories:  walking to and from school together, double- and triple-dating (and sometimes more) with him, going to parties and to the beach with him, etc.  That day of the great unforgettable football game,  I was sitting in the stands with his parents, by the oddest coincidence, and we early killed ourselves yelling, stomping, and clapping as Jimmy was running that ball back!!!  It breaks my heart that we lost touch and I didn't know what he was going through in '88 and '89, to be whatever comfort I could have been.  I'm sure I'll continue to miss him always.  Dianne Cresswell Cinnamon

Steve, thank you for your posting about Jimmy.  I too think of him often.  I knew he died a number of years ago but have wondered what happened.
