Richard Franklin Reppert

Richard F. Reppert (“Dick”), age 75, of Beaver, WV, passed away on April 26, 2021, surrounded by loving caregivers at the Villages at Greystone assisted living facility in Beaver.

Dick was born on March 14, 1946, in Washington, DC, to parents Frank and Mary (Hill) Reppert. He attended Montgomery College in Rockville, MD, and Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, WV, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1968, he enlisted in the Navy and served for six years, working at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Chicago, IL, working in X-ray technology. On the GI bill, he attended the University of Cincinnati and earned a Master’s degree in nuclear medicine. Thereafter he worked as a radiology technician in Beckley, WV, at the Beckley Hospital and later at the VA Medical Center.

He had wide-ranging interests. He mastered the intricacies of watch and clock repair as a boy and loved nothing better than a broken clock for Christmas. At Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, he sang in the chorus, under Faye Finley Shaw, which competed at the state level. He ran varsity cross-country races in high school and at Montgomery College, even once finishing a race in the top five after losing one shoe and finishing the race half barefoot. He was fascinated by evolving computer science, mastering computer repair during his retirement. A man of strong Christian faith, he attended church faithfully as his health permitted and especially enjoyed singing Gospel hymns.

He will be buried next to his parents at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Survivors are his sister, Joanne R. Reams, and brother-in-law, Peter Reams, of Alexandria, VA, and one nephew and two nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Special thanks go to the staff of the Greystone, who took care of him so lovingly for twelve years. One of Dick’s favorite scriptures, for which he will be remembered, was “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
